STOCKTON, Calif. – Wes Goldie of the Alaska Aces scored his 368th goal last night against the Colorado Eagles, and is now tied with Rod Taylor for the Most ECHL Career Goals scored. Taylor, a 2009 ECHL Hall of Fame inductee, has held that record since 2003.
Goldie’s goal also marked his 600th point in his professional career, making him the seventh player to reach that level in ECHL history.
Goldie’s career began in 1995 with the London Knights (OHL), four seasons with the Owen Sound Platers (OHL), four seasons with the Pee Dee Pride (ECHL), and a season at Florence Pride (ECHL). He then spent two
seasons with Sorel-Tracy Mission (LNAH – a Northern America Hockey league). In 2006, he was signed by the Victoria Salmon Kings, until he was traded to his current Alaska Aces in 2010.
The 32 year old, right wing, London, Ontario Native has a long list of accomplishments, including ECHL player of the week on several occasions. In fact, the goal was his 56th game winning goal as well, leading fans to chant his name in the final part of the game.
Goldie is currently the goal scoring leader on the Aces this season, with 33 goals (56 points). Over the last five seasons Goldie has consistently scored more than 40 goals each year.
Goldie was a member of last year’s Alaska Aces Kelly Cup Champion team, earning three goals and 11 assists in the post season. At this rate, he’s on track to take the lead for all-time most goals scored before the end of the season.
