In Sunrise, the New York Rangers held two lead on Sunday afternoon, including a 4-2 advantage through two periods of play.After surrendering the two-goal lead in the third, the Rangers found themselves in extra time, again, having won Game 2 on a goal by Barclay Goodrow for a 2-1 win.
On Sunday, Alex Wennberg tipped a shot from the left point by Ryan Lindgren, at 5:35, to give the Rangers a 5-4 win in Game 3, and a 2-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference Final.
Kaapo Kakko had the secondary assist on the game winner.
Igor Shesterkin made 35 saves in the win.
Game 4 is set for Sunrise on Tuesday night.
Sam Reinhart opened the scoring at 2:50 of the opening stanza with a power play strike for a 1-0 lead to the Panthers.
The Rangers tied the game. 1-1, at 7:17, after they had some difficulty clearing their own zone. Jacob Trouba pushed the puck out to Vincent Trocheck at the red line who found Alexis Lafreniere breaking into the Panthers zone for a nifty backhand shot.
It was the first of two on the afternoon by Lafreniere.
Twenty-five seconds later, Barclay Goodrow deflected a shot form Brendan Schneider from the right point to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
Reinhart scored his second power play goal of the period to tie the game, 2-2, at 14:46, headed to the second period.
In the middle frame, Lafreniere and Goodrow went to work again.
Lafreniere picked up his double at 15:23, for a 3-2 advantage. He scored off an end to end rush on a feed from K’Andre Miller in their own zone.
He went up the left boards, did a toe drag around Panthers’ defenseman Dmitry Kulikov, leaving him on his knees before beating Sergei Bobrovsky with another backhand.
Goodrow collected his double at 18:14, scoring a shorthanded marker, after Trocheck outpaced the Panthers to to the puck in their zone on a clear.
Trocheck found Goodrow coming down the left wing for a shot from inside the left circle and a 4-2 lead headed to the third period.
The panthers posted a pair of markers in the third period to knot the game, 4-4, forcing extra time.
Aleksander Barkov trimmed the deficit to 4-3 at 5:04, scoring a deflection of a an errant pass from Carter Verhaeghe.
Gustav Forsling made overtime necessary when he scored at 6:58, scoring off a shot form the left circle.
