It was a busy week in the FHL as the Dayton Demonz and Danville Dashers battled Thursday night in Dayton, Ohio. It was a hard fought game between West Division rivals. The Demonz eventually skated away with a 6-5 win led by Seth Ronsberg with two goals.
Friday night saw a full slate of games around the league as Dayton picked up their second win of the week with a convincing 6-1 victory over the visiting Steel City Warriors.
The Danville Dashers again fell short of a road win, this time against the Watertown Wolves in a 6-5 loss. The Wolves got two goals apiece from Colby Spooner and Ben Schoenberger.
In the night’s third game the Berkshire Battalion upended the league-leading Danbury Whalers 7-2. The Battalion used four second period goals to pull away from the Whalers. Berkshire got two goals from three different scorers (Mike Kaselouskas, Vladyslav Gavrik and Brandon Contralto) Friday night. With the Whalers’ loss and the Wolves’ win, the two teams are now tied atop the FHL standings.
Saturday night was again another full night of hockey round the FHL. In Watertown the Wolves hosted the Berkshire Battalion and once again used a strong 3rd period to pull away from a 3-3 tie after two periods to win 7-3 in front of a raucous crowd. The Wolves were led by Lucas LaBelle & Ben Schoenberger with two goals apiece.
In Danbury, the Whalers hosted the Dashers in a low scoring affair. Goalies Mike Brown (DAN) stopped 29 shots and Mike Anthony (DAN) made 38 saves as they battled it out in a 2-1 Whalers victory.
The upset of the weekend came down in Steel City as the Warriors and the visiting Dayton Demonz battled all night long and into overtime. Steel City’s Denis Semenov lead the team with 5 points on the night (1 G 4 A) but it was a goal from Ryan Dolence 4:14 into overtime that led the Warriors to a hard fought win over the Demonz in the Ice Garden.
Scoring Leaders….Justin McDonald (WAT) netted his FHL leading 35th goal of the year, Robert Vanwynsberghe (DAY) picked up his 25th goal of the year while Gehrett Sargis (DAN) netted his 21st of the year.
