Coach Chuck Weber knows discipline will be vital when Genting Casino Coventry Blaze take on Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League this weekend.
Blaze come up against a Cardiff side who have won their last nine games and have the best powerplay in the league when they head to south Wales tomorrow night.
Sheffield then visit the Skydome on Sunday (5.15pm face-off), with both their opponents seeking to enhance their aspirations of winning the title.
Blaze, meanwhile, are looking to build on their home victory over Nottingham Panthers last Sunday as they attempt to climb back into the top eight.
Weber said: “We have had a good week of practice, working on our powerplay, working on our end zone and our offensive zone face-offs. We have installed some different systems so we can make adjustments during the game.
“We can’t be happy with one win in every five, we have to be at the point of winning two in three. We have 21 regular-season games left so to reach .500 we are going to have to go 15-6 which is around two wins in three.
“We have dug ourselves a hole but if we were to get to .500 that is a massive win for the organisation. That would put us in a fantastic situation to qualify for the play-offs and we also have the Challenge Cup to contend for.
“Cardiff are on a 9-0 run and will have a lot of confidence so we will need to go in there and play a perfect road game. We have to keep them off the powerplay as they are very dangerous and we have to get more attempts on net and have some sustained pressure offensively to keep their scorers away from the net.
“Sheffield are another quality team who have a potent line-up. I saw them in my second game here and a bad five minutes cost us when we went up 2-1 and quickly were down 4-2. They also have a dangerous powerplay so we will need to stay out of the box.
“The games against Cardiff and Sheffield have been tight when we were playing short-handed but Mark Smith is nearly at full speed, Derek Lee is around 90 per cent and Ashley Tait will hopefully be able to do a little more this weekend too.”
