Weber ‘searching for continuity’

Coach Chuck Weber is looking for improvements from his Genting Casino Coventry Blaze side in the Challenge Cup this weekend.

Blaze split their opening games of the Elite League season with Fife Flyers before losing their first cup tie at home to Sheffield Steelers last Saturday.

They take on Steelers again in Sheffield on Saturday night before Nottingham Panthers visit the Skydome on Sunday (5.15pm face-off). 175px-CoventryBlaze

Weber said: “We need to play a smart road game and not start exchanging chances with them. We need to manage the puck and take care of our own end.

“We need to get better on the powerplay which is nowhere near it needs to be. Our penalty kill in the last two games has been solid – we just need to finish our chances.

“Nottingham have shown they are a strong defensive club, both their games last weekend were 2-1 games after overtime.

“They are another team with a lot of offence and a deep team but we are hoping to be able to regroup in our building.

“It is about taking baby steps and searching for continuity. You don’t need to start changing things too radically, you need to give it time to work. You want to keep seeing an improvement in your game.

“Our goal is to be better than we were last week and to get some points in the cup. We want to get as many as we can to qualify for the next round.”
