Weal helps Flyers keep pace in win over Ottawa

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers have just six left on their schedule and trail the second wild card spot by six points.

The Boston Bruins defeated the Nashville Predators, 4-1, to keep the cushion safe for now.

Jordan Weal potted the game-winner in the skills competition to keep hope alive in Philadelphia.

“I had a plan in mind,” Weal said. “Maybe it didn’t go exactly as planned but it found the back of the net and we got a big win.”

Steve Mason picked up the win for the Flyers on  saves.

Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson scored for the Sens who regulation; they now trail the Montreal Canadiens by four points in the race for the Atlantic Division lead.

The Flyers’ regulation goals came from Weal and Brayden Schenn .

“You can’t [scoreboard watch]. There’s too many teams that we’re trying to catch and push ahead of. We worry about our games and hopefully we get some help, but that’s out of our control. We got the two points again tonight and we’re going to worry about Thursday’s game and go from there,” Philadelphia’s Michael Del Zotto said of the race for the playoffs.

Craig Anderson took the loss and made 33 saves.

“It should have never gotten to the shootout, that’s the bottom line 100 percent,” Anderson said. “Horrible read by me and our guys deserved better than that.”
