MOLINE, IL – Sam Warning’s end-to-end rush gave the host Quad City Mallards (38-24-4) a 2-1 overtime victory over the Wichita Thunder (18-40-6) Sunday afternoon.
The third-place Mallards now lead the fourth-place Kalamazoo Wings by four points and trail the second-place Fort Wayne Komets by six points in the Central Division standings.
Warning, who also had an assist, scored the spectacular game winner at 2:42 of sudden death.
The Mallards first took the lead while on the power play when Alex Petan buried Warning’s centering pass 16 minutes into the first period.
It was during a Thunder man advantage that Jerermy Beaudry tied the score at one with a blast from the high slot at 16:22 of the second period.
The Mallards visit Wichita Tuesday night before returning home to meet the Alaska Aces Friday evening at 7:05 p.m.
