TOLEDO, Ohio – Alden Hirschfeld scored twice in the first period in front of a standing room only crowd of 8,103 as the Walleye took down the Kalamazoo Wings 6-2. Toledo has an overall record of 12-3-0-0 and is 4-1-0-0 at home.
Toledo started fast on this night when Alden Hirschfeld wristed a shot through Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin at 5:24 of the first period. Hirschfeld (5th) picked up his second of the period on a wraparound at 7:47 for a 2-0 Walleye lead. A.J. Jenks (7th) picked up the lone goal of the second period at 8:10 when the rebound of his shot deflected off of his leg and into the back of the net.
Toledo erased a 3-0 deficit in the third period and Kalamazoo tried to duplicate that Saturday by scoring twice in the first 11 minutes of the third period. The first professional goal from defenseman Simon Denis at 15:31 pushed the Walleye lead back to a two goal lead. Shane Berschbach (4th) and Tyson Spink (5th) each scored last power play goals to finish the scoring.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 28 of the 30 Kalamazoo shots he faced in the game and improved his record to 5-3-0-0 on the season. Toledo scored two power play goals in a game for the first time this year.
