Walleye stare down Reading, win Game 6 Deciding Game 7 back in Toledo

READING, Pa – The Toledo Walleye stared down the face of elimination and, at least for one night, won the staring contest winning Game Six of their best-of-seven series with the Reading Royals 3-1 setting up Game Seven in Toledo on Tuesday for the right to move onto the second round of the ECHL playoffs. 2016KellyCup

A.J. Jenks played hero once again for the Walleye with two goals, his four and fifth of the playoffs, and Jeff Lerg, who was back in net for Toledo, made 33 saves on 34 shots.

Cam Reid scored the only goal for Reading on the power play with only 18 seconds left in the second period to cut Toledo’s lead down to 2-1 heading into the final period.

Lerg was outstanding in the Walleye net including a save on a penalty shot by Joe Renkamp in the first period.

Jenks would put the game out of reach with an empty net goal with 1:22 left in the game. Reading goaltender Martin Ouellette was barely tested all night making only 12 saves on 14 shots. The Royals pressed all night but Lerg was brilliant all night when he had to be.
