Walleye stage third period comeback, down Beast

BRAMPTON, ON – Max Gaede and Marek Tvrdon scored in the third period to lead Toledo to a 3-2 win Friday night in Brampton. Toledo has an overall record of 6-5-0-3 and is 6-4-0-2 on the road.

Toledo Walleye logoBrampton struck first with a goal at 13:13 of the first period as Luc-Olivier Blain’s shot deflected past goaltender Jeff Lerg. Toledo was outshot 9-8 in the opening period. Brampton led throughout much of the second period until Alden Hirschfeld (7th) banked in a shot off of Beast goaltender Trevor Cann with just 23 seconds left in the second period.

In the third period, Brandon Marino scored for Brampton to give the Beast a 2-1 lead just 1:28 into the third period. The first professional goal from forward Gaede at 9:54 of the third period evened the score. At 14:05 Austin Wuthrich dropped a pass to Tvrdon (5th) who wristed a shot through Cann to give the Walleye the win.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Lerg stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced and his record is 4-2-2 on the season…Toledo is 2-1-0 vs. Brampton this season with the two teams playing a total of eleven times…The goal by Hirschfeld in the second period extended his point streak to five consecutive games.
