TOLEDO, OH – A four goal second period led the Walleye to a 9-1 victory in front of another sellout crowd of 7,511 Sunday at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 33-12-2-1 and is 15-5-1-1 at home.
Alden Hirschfeld (18th) started the scoring for the Walleye with wrist shot from between the circles at 6:37 of the first period. Evan Rankin found Tyson Spink (22nd) at the side of the net at 11:41 for a 2-0 lead that carried into the second period. The scoring barrage continued when Evan Rankin (22nd) beat Joel Rumpel at 3:47 followed quickly by a goal from Chris Leone (1st) at 4:55 for a 4-0 Walleye advantage.
Tylor Spink jumped on a rebound at 8:11 for his 17th goal of the season and a 5-0 lead. After the Cyclones made a goaltending change, Tyson Spink picked up his second goal of the night on a Walleye power play at 15:06.
Goals by Dane Walters (8th) at 7:42 on the backhand and Shane Berschbach (10th) at 8:18 on a wrist shot lifted the Walleye lead to 8-0 inside the third period. A.J. Jenks (16th) finished the Walleye scoring at 13:06 of the period before Cincinnati picked up their lone goal. Tylor Spink led all players with four points (1 goal, 3 assists).
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced in the game and has a record of 23-9-1-1 on the season… Toledo finished the game with a 35-16 shot advantage, including setting a new Toledo Walleye record holding Cincinnati to just one shot on goal in the first period.
