Walleye keep on rolling with win over Utah

TOLEDO, Ohio – A.J. Jenks scored once with an assist in his return to Toledo’s lineup in a 3-2 win over Utah Friday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 23-10-1-3 and 10-4-0-1 at home. The Walleye have won six straight games overall.

In the first ever meeting between the two teams, Utah scored the game’s first goal when forward Alex Krushelnyski picked up a power play goal at 13:04 of the first period. Toledo tied the game with a power play strike of their own at 15:26 as Zach Nastasiuk fed Tyler Maxwell (6th) in front of the Utah net.

Toledo’s second power play goal of the night came just 2:33 into the second period as A.J. Jenks (12th) beat Grizzlies net minder Ryan Faragher with a wrist shot. A breakaway for Utah forward Charles Sarault at 13:23 evened the score at two. Shane Berschbach (13th) kept his point streak alive with some help as his backhand shot deflected off of Grizzlies forward Jon Puskar and into the back of the net at 14:23. The Walleye shut down Utah in the third period behind 8 saves from Jeff Lerg.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 28 of x30 shots he faced and has a record of 17-4-0-2 on the season. Shane Berschbach extended his point streak to seven consecutive games with his goal in the second period (seven goals and six assists in the streak). Toledo’s power play finished two of three on the night.

Walleye Transactions: Prior to Friday’s game forward Zach Nastasiuk was reassigned to the Walleye from Grand Rapids and forward A.J. Jenks was returned from his loan to the Griffins of the AHL. Jenks scored twice with an assist in five games played for Grand Rapids while Nastasiuk has collected four assists in 15 games with the Griffins.
