Walleye get even with Reading

READING, Pa – Any ideas of the Reading Royals pulling off a two game lead against the Toledo Walleye in their first round playoff series were dashed early Saturday night in Toledo when the Walleye scored the first four goals of the game in the first period but Reading sure made the home fans sweat when they made a furious comeback only to come up a goal short in Toledo’s 4-3 win to tie their ECHL playoff series a 1-1.Toledo Walleye logo

Royals goaltender Martin Ouellette was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots in the first period and Toledo goaltender Jake Peterson, a third round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2012, got the start in place of Jeff Lerg, made 23 saves on 26 shots for the win. After having only five shots on net in the first period the Royals dominated play in the second and third periods outshooting Toledo 21-10.

The Walleye had goals from four different players and had one power play goal and one shorthanded.  Reading was 0-5 on the power play.

The Royals had goals from three different players. Despite the setback look for Ouellette to be back in net for games 3 and 4 back in Reading Tuesday and Wednesday night. Toledo will have to decide whether or not to stick with Peterson or Lerg in the Toledo net.
