READING, Pa – The proverb “turnabout is fair play” is a curious one. It means that it is fair for one to suffer whatever has one has caused others to suffer. The eighth seeded Reading Royals so far have caused the top seeded Toledo Walleye all kinds of misery in the first three games in their ECHL playoff series.
Wednesday night it was Toledo’s turn make Reading suffer as the Walleye got two goals from A.J. Jenks and Detroit Red Wings prospect Jake Peterson was back in net making 25 saves on 26 shots for a 3-1 win to tie their playoff series at 2-2 sending the series back to Toledo Friday night. Game 6 will be back in Reading Sunday afternoon.
In an odd move Royals goaltender Martin Ouellette did not start the game. Adam Morrison started in his place making 22 saves on 24 shots. The Royals got their lone goal from Brandon Alderson, his third of the playoffs. He is the only Reading Royal with more than one goal in the series. Both teams were a combined 1-13 on the power play with Toledo getting the only goal on special teams.
Toledo Head Coach Derek Lalonde decided to go to Peterson instead of goaltender Jeff Lerg who has both of the Walleye’s losses in the series. Look for LaLonde to stick with Peterson the rest of the series and Reading to go back to Ouellette.
