INIDANAPOLIS, IN – Shane Berschbach had a pair of assists and Kyle Bonis scored in his Walleye return as Toledo beat the Fuel 3-2 Friday night in Indy. Toledo has an overall record of 50-17-2-2 and is 25-10-1-0 on the road.
Alex Globke scored twice Wednesday night in Fort Wayne and he started the scoring tonight in Indy when he wristed in his fourth of the season for Toledo’s first goal at 7:51 of the first period. The Fuel countered with a goal to tie the game at 12:53. In his first game back in a Walleye uniform, Bonis found the back of the net by firing in a wrist shot just 20 seconds after the Fuel evened the game for his sixth of the year.
Toledo picked up a power play goal at 10:29 of the second period when Nolan Zajac beat Jake Hildebrand with a wrist shot from the top of the circles for his eleventh of the season. The Fuel closed the gap with an even strength goal at 16:08 for a 3-2 Walleye lead after two periods. Toledo outshot the Fuel 39-30 including 14-9 in the third period to salt away the win.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 28 of Indy’s 30 shots and has a record of 33-13-1-1 on the season. The win sets a new single season goaltender wins record for Paterson, passing Jeff Lerg’s 32 from 2014-15… Toledo finishes the road slate with a Walleye record 25 wins and have tied the 2014-15 season for the most season wins in Toledo ECHL history.
