Walleye comeback falls just short

FORT WAYNE, IN – The Toledo Walleye staged a comeback on Thanksgiving night but it fell  just short against Fort Wayne Komets as the home team won 5-4. The Walleye are now 11-4-2 overall and 6-4-2 on the road.

The Komets opened the scoring just 1:18 into the first period on a goal by Shawn Szydlowski to take a 1-0 lead. The Komets extended their lead at 2-0 when Dennis Kravchenko at 3:41 of the first. The Walleye pulled within one with a power play goal by Zach Nastasiuk to make it 2-1 Komets with seven seconds left in the first.

The Walleye tied the game 2-2 with a goal by Christian Hilbrich at 15:30 of the second period. The Komets regained the lead to make it a 3-2 game when Ryan Lowney scored at 18:50 of the second.

The Walleye tied the game 3-3 with a goal by Connor Crisp at 3:32 of the third period. Toledo took a 4-3 lead at 4:31 of the third with a goal by Tyler Barnes. The Komets tied the game 4-4 just 13 seconds later on Kravchenko’s second of the game at 4:44 of the third. The Komets regained the lead for the final time when Gabriel Desjardins scored to make it a 5-4 game at 5:02 of the third.

Fish Tales: The Walleye return home Friday for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop against Worcester. They are on the road Sunday for a 2 p.m. puck drop against Brampton… Nagle stopped 28-33 shots and is now 10-1-2 on the season… Tyler Barnes is on a four-game assist streak… Last time the Walleye played on Thanksgiving was November 25, 2010, at Gwinnett (now Atlanta). The Fish won the game 3-2 in a shootout.
