Walleye come back to bite Beast

BRAMPTON, ON – Evan Rankin scored in the third period as the Walleye erased a three goal deficit to defeat the Beast 6-4 Sunday in Brampton. Toledo has an overall record of 29-7-0-1 and is 17-5-0-0 on the road.

Things did not start well for the Walleye as Brampton struck for three goals in the first 6:10 of the opening period. Toledo started to claw back when Alden Hirschfeld deflected a Shane Berschbach pass up and over Brampton net minder Zachary Fucale for his 12th goal of the season at 10:36. J.P. LaFontaine picked up his second goal in as many days at 13:06 to bring Toledo within a goal after the first period.

It didn’t take long for the Walleye to tie the game in the second period as Zach Nastasiuk tapped in a rebound for his 6th goal at 25 seconds. Evan Rankin set up Tyson Spink heading to front of the Brampton net and Tyson scored his 18th goal of the season at 4:19 to give the Walleye the lead 4-3.

Brampton picked up break when Brandon Marino threw the puck into the crease from the corner and it went off of Jake Paterson and into the net to even the game at four at 7:25.The 99th goal in a Walleye uniform from Evan Rankin at 12:01 gave Toledo the lead for good 5-4. Simon Denis jumped on a rebound for his third of the year at 12:53 to finish the scoring.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced and has a record of 19-5-0-1 this season… Toledo is 5-1-0 vs. Brampton this season… Tyson Spink has scored 8 goals against Brampton this year.
