Voracek goal extends Flyers' streak to six

PHILADELPHIA – With less than 10 seconds left in extra time, Jakub Voracek potted the game-winning goal for the Flyers to help them extend their winning streak to six games Tuesday night.

Steve Mason made 42 saves in a busy night, especially in the third period.

“I think a month and a half ago, we [would have allowed] two, three goals in that third period, and we’re talking about something different now,” said Wayne Simmonds , who put Philadelphia ahead 2-1 with a power-play goal at 10:08 of the second period. “But great goaltending, little bit of luck. It happened to go our way tonight.”

Simmonds scored twice for the Flyers.

“Sometimes you get bounces,” Simmonds said. “I think early in the year we weren’t getting anything. Things are starting to turn our way. I don’t think it’s luck. I think you have to force things to turn your way. We’ve been working hard as a group. I think we have to do better than we did tonight, but overall the effort level over the last 10, 15 games has been great.”

Florida’s goals came from Jussi Jokinen and Aleksander Barkov.

“I told the guys after the game, as frustrating as it is and as mad as some of you might be, there’s too many positives to get down,” Panthers head coach Tom Rowe said.

James Reimer made 22 saves in the Panthers net to take the loss.

“Certain times you feel like you deserve more, especially when you have over 40 shots in a game and only score a couple goals. That’s tough. There are definitely a lot of positives, and I think we got to work off of those,” Panthers Reilly Smith said of his team’s effort and tough loss.
