NEWCASTLE, UK – Newcastle Vipers are hoping that a bumper crowd will make their way to Hillheads Ice Rink in Whitley Bay this Saturday (18th December 7pm face off) as the Tyneside based team take on the Sheffield Steelers in an Elite League clash.
Vipers Coach Danny Stewart and General Manager Jamie Longmuir have been doing all they can to increase the clubs profile in the media in the last few weeks in the hope their efforts will bring some new fans to Newcastle’s home games. This coming Friday both Stewart and Longmuir are set to appear on the Elite League show on Sky Sports.
Newcastle have already faced Sheffield Steelers on 3 occasions this season. Steelers have won all 3 clashes so far this campaign with 8-0, 8-0 and 5-3 victories. Both of the Vipers heavy defeats took place in the House of Steel in South Yorkshire while the 5-3 reverse was on home ice at Whitley Bay.
During the last few weeks Vipers have been in solid form picking up home victories over Dundee Stars and Coventry Blaze and have also picked up an away point against the Stars in Scotland. In Newcastle’s last home game Vipers went down to 5-4 defeat to the Braehead Clan which demonstrates that Danny Stewart side has been very competitive of late.
Newcastle’s current financial problems seems to have brought their roster together and Vipers have looked a very hard working side in their last few outings. Player/Coach Danny Stewart has led his side forward from the blue line while the likes of Jamie Carroll and Mike Prpich have been amongst the points of late.
