Venus is coming home

The Coventry Blaze are pleased to confirm that British forward Ross Venus will return for the 2021/22 Elite League season, his 11th straight with the club.

At just 26-years-old, Venus has amassed 660 games for the Blaze (3rd most all-time) scoring 73 goals and 142 assists for 215 points.

In the most recent 2019/20 season, the Blaze academy product celebrated a testimonial season by producing his best offensive numbers to date.

In 47 regular season games he scored 15 goals with 22 assists for 37 points and followed that up with two goals, three assists for five points in the recent Elite Series, including an overtime winner against the Nottingham Panthers.

His impressive performances earned him a re-call to the Great Britain senior squad for the IIHF Olympic Pre-Qualification tournament and later he was also named in the national team for the World Championships.

An associate Captain for the past two years, Venus’ most famous moment in a Blaze jersey came as he scored the game-winning goal to win the Elite League Playoff Championship in 2015.

Venus joins Jordan Hedley, David Clements, Alex Forbes and Luke Ferrara who will make up the Blaze Brit core for 2021/22.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said: “Ross completes our strong British core and will be looking to build on his best season in Blaze colours during the 2019/20 season. We saw a lot more production from ‘V’ during last season, and we really liked him in the middle.

“He’s a big part of this club on and off the ice. He’s been here over a decade now and is fully bought in to the organisation. He’s part of our leadership group and after finalising his deal, we are thrilled to have retained our British core for another season.

“They have played a huge part in our success the past couple seasons and will do again for us next season.”
