Veideman buries game-winning goal in OT as Eagles top Rush 4-3

LOVELAND, Colo. – The Colorado Eagles beat the Rapid City Rush 4-3 in overtime Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. Eagles defenseman Adrian Veideman scored the game-winner and forward Trent Daavettila notched a goal and two assists on the night.

The Rush took a 1-0 lead early in the first period when forward Cody Ferriero scored from the circle at the 5:03 mark. Rapid City would carry that 1-0 lead into first intermission.

30 seconds into the second period, Eagles defenseman Jake Marto beat two defenders and buried a shot from just inside the circle to put the Eagles on the board and tying the game at 1-1.

Colorado took a 2-1 lead at the 9:50 mark of the period after great connections set-up Daavettila for a goal from the right side. Forwards Kyle Kraemer and Kyle Ostrow picked up assists on the play.

The Rush tied it up again at 2-2 when forward Winston Day Chief found the back of the net from on top of the crease with 2:19 to play in the second. The 2-2 tie would hold for the rest of the second period.

Kraemer took a drop pass from between the circles, beating Rapid City goaltender Danny Battochio just 54 seconds into the third period. Kraemer’s goal gave Colorado a 3-2 lead.

Rapid City struck on a 5-3 powerplay late in the third, as defenseman Taylor Doherty tied up the game at the 14:49 mark of the third period with a one-timer from the top of the circle. After regulation, the Eagles and Rush remained tied 3-3.

The Eagles took over in overtime when Veideman scored a power play goal from the circle off a slapshot just 1:50 into the extra frame, giving Colorado the 4-3 victory in front of a sold-out crowd.

The Eagles hit the road Sunday traveling to Rapid City to take on the Rush on their home ice. Puck drop is at 4:05 pm.
