In Columbus, Cole Sillinger hit for his first career NHL hat trick in a 6-4 win for the Blue Jackets over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday.
“It didn’t really feel real, and then kind of going forward in the second period there, I was kind of, not really zoned out, but just like, oh my God, what just happened?” Sillinger said. “Pretty cool.”
Elvis Merzlikins made 23 saves in the Blue Jackets win.
Columbus moved to 30-27-3.
“Obviously, the Sillinger line there, they were feeling it tonight,” Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen said. “The guys just keep pushing, they just keep pushing and playing hard. You know that’s a desperate team we were playing. We knew where they were at. We talked about it. They need these points bad, so you better be focused and ready.”
Jonathan Marchessault and William Carrier g had goals for the Knights.
“Same old story,” Vegas’ Chandler Stephenson said. “Until we can figure it out, it’s a good enough reality check. Guys should be woken up by now.”
The the Golden Knights dropped to 32-25-4.
Oliver Bjorkstrand and Patrik Laine added single markers for the Blues Jackets.
Evgenii Dadonov and Jack Eichel also scored for the Golden Knights.
“We’re four games into this trip and I could argue we could have won every one of those games, but we found ways to lose and that’s troubling,” Vegas coach Peter DeBoer said. “There’s urgency. We know the situation. We’ve got to stop the bleeding.”
Eric Robinson hit for an empty net goal with 11 seconds left in the game for the 6-4 final.
Logan Thompson made 32 saves in the Vegas loss.
