Vegas takes back-end of home and home with Sharks

This one was easy for the Vegas Golden Knights.

In a rematch of their season opener with the San Jose Sharks, the Knights swept aside the home tome town Sharks in a 5-1 decision.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 34 save to get the win.

“It doesn’t erase what happened last spring, but it feels good,” Fleury said in reference to losing to San Jose in overtime in Game 7 of the Western Conference First Round in April. “We had all summer to think about these two games. Four points on them already is a good thing.”

Two of the Vegas goals came on shorthanded situations; they now have three shorties on the season.

Tomas Nosek had two strikes and an assist in the win.

“I’ve never had a three-point game in the NHL,” Nosek said. “I’m happy for the win and happy for the three points.”

William Carrier, Jonathan Marchessault and Brayden McNabb also scored for the Knights.

“We played great,” McNabb said. “We just have to move on. We’ve got a bunch of good teams coming up.”

Vegas won the two-game set by an aggregate socre of 9-2.

“I don’t think anyone in here is proud of their performance, the way we’ve played or the way we’ve started this season,” Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson said. “But there’s no need to panic. We’re two games in.”

Martin Jones got the start but was given the hook after he allowed four goals and made only 19 saves.

“We drew a very good team, maybe the best team in the West right out of the gate, and they showed us how it’s supposed to look,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. “We’ve got some work to do.”

Aaron Dell played in the third period and made five saves.
