Vegas score late to down Panthers, 5-3

On The Strip, Nicolas Roy scored for the Golden Knights less than a minute after the Florida Panthers had tied their match, 3-3, in the third period. Roy’s goal restored the Knights’ lead at 4-3, and William Karlsson added an empty-net strike for the icer in a 5-3 win over the Panthers.

“That was a [heck] of a gutsy win,” Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer said. “Lot of big efforts. … The kid (Thompson) played well in net.”

Logan Thompson made 33 saves in the Golden Knights win.

“There was a loose puck there,” Roy said. “It was nice timing to get back on the board.”

Sam Reinhart tied the game, 3-3, just past the midway point in the third period for the Panthers.

Vegas improved to 33-26-4.

Brett Howden had a goal for Vegas, his strike tied the game, 1-1.

“It was great to be back,” Howden said. “I tried to play my game, bring some energy. I think we played really good.”

Carter Verhaeghe had give the Panthers the early 1-0 advantage.

Evgenii Dadonov hit for a double to give the Golden Knights a 3-1 lead.

“I saw open ice, cut it and just shot it,” Dadonov said. “I didn’t think much about it.”

Sam Bennett and Anthony Duclair  scored for Florida to get the teams even ahead of the third period.

Florida dropped to 41-14-6.

Spencer Knight made 28 saves in the Panthers loss.
