Vegas rally past Blue Jackets for 3-2 win

On The Strip, the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets held all the cards in an early 2-0 lead on Saturday night, over the Golden Knights.

Vegas responded with thee unanswered goals including two in the third period from Reilly Smith and Mattias Janmark  in a 3-2 win.

“It was a super resilient effort the last few games,” Smith said. “Every game there’s something else happening, a little more adversity. For guys to come in and be able to contribute, it’s the world for us right now.”

The Golden Knights improved to 11-7-0.

Laurent Brossoit made 27 saves in the Vegas win.

“We’re finding ways to win games,” Vegas head coach Pete DeBoer said. “I can’t wait until we’re healthy and we can roll a full lineup out there. It’s going to be on those guys coming in to jump in and continue with the foundation we’re on right now.”

Columbus’ Gustav Nyquist hot for a goal with just 45 seconds gone in the game for a 1-0 lead.

Alexandre Texier doubled the advantage with a strike in the ninth minute of the first period.

“I think we played a really good first period,” Columbus’ Zach Werenski said. “We played how we have to play in order to win and then we kind of lose ourselves a little bit.”

Columbus dropped to 9-6-0.

Keegan Kolesar scored in the middle frame for the Knights to get them within a goal of the Blue Jackets; the goal came after nearly three minutes of Vegas pressure in the offensive zone.

“That’s what set up the goal was the two shifts prior to that,” r DeBoer said. “We might have even got two full changes or at least a change and a half and they got tired. I liked our killer instinct there to jump on that.”

Smith scored shorthanded on a breakaway to tie the game, 2-2.

“Obviously the shorthanded goal in the third hurts and they find a way to win,” Werenski said. “We just kind of got away from our game there and they took it to us.”

Elvis Merzlikins made 32 saves in the Jackets loss.
