In Las Vegas, the San Jose Sharks let a great second period go to waste in a 5-4 loss to the Golden Knights on Wednesday. 
The Sharks posted three goals in the middle frame to take a 3-1 lead in the third.
The Knights struck for four straight goals to grab the win.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves to get the win.
Shea Theodore gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead in the first period.
“I think our group has a confidence to what we do,” Vegas head coach Peter DeBoer said. “I think we’ve done it enough where we know that if we get a certain amount of pressure on the other team at the right moments in the third, we have the chance to grab that momentum.”
Matt Nieto, Mario Ferraro and Kevin Labanc scored for the Sharks in the busy middle frame.
“I take some great things out of both games,” Sharks head coach Bob Boughner said. “We’re trending in the right direction, but this really stings right now.”
But Cody Glass and Nicolas Hague got the Knights even early in the third.
Alec Martinez and Ryan Reaves pushed the Vegas lead to 5-3.
“Any time you do anything against the Sharks, it’s fun,” Reaves said. “It’s no secret I hate every one of them over there.”
Evander Kane ended the Vegas run with a power-play marker in the third period for the final score of the game.
“We gave up too many chances, too many goals,” the Sharks’ Logan Couture said. “We got away from what we wanted to do.”
Devan Dubnyk made 32 saves. in the loss.
