Vegas overcome early deficit, down Kings on penalties, 4-3 LA blows 2-0 lead, get loser's point in loss

In Los Angeles, Jack Eichel had the only marker on penalties on Saturday night in a 4-3 win for the Vegas Golden Knights over the Kings.

The win pushed the Vegas point streak to nine to open the season.

Logan Thompson made 36 saves in the Vegas win, he stopped all three skaters in the skills competition.

“He likes the show, right?” Vegas’ William Carrier said of Thompson, who has stopped 31 of 38 attempts in eight career shootouts. “We kind of knew if we were going there we had a good chance of winning. He loves it. I mean, he’s young, he’s got the energy, and it feels great.”

LA took a 2-0 lead in the game on a first goal from Alex Laferriere at 13:13 of the first period for a 1-0 lead.

Trevor Lewis extended the advantage to 2-0 at 4:54 of the middle frame.

“It could have went either way,” Los Angeles center Phillip Danault said. “We played pretty well. It was a really tight game, to be honest.”

Vegas then reeled off three straight to take a 3-2 lead into the third period.

Michael Amadio and Carrier struck in the second period to tie the game, 2-2.

“We stuck with it,” Thompson said. “Good teams find ways to win, as we did tonight.”

Mark stone hit off the power play at 6:26 of the third to give the Knights a 3-2 lead.

“Power play scores a big goal,” Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We didn’t get that yesterday against Chicago, and it maybe cost us a point. Big goal from ‘Stoney.’ Good second-effort play to keep a puck alive.”

Drew Doughty rescued LA with a tying goal with 63 seconds left on the game clock.

“You can see the fire in his eyes,” Danault said. “He’s back, and we need him big time like this. He’s scored some big goals, and to get a huge point like this, every game counts and he’s present every game.”

Cam Talbot made 27 saves in the loss.

“We knew what we were facing, Stanley Cup champs, so we definitely had to be at our best, and on a back-to-back as well (Los Angeles won 5-4 at the Arizona Coyotes on Friday),” Danault said. “Honestly, we played a pretty solid 60 minutes.”
