August Falloon’s late goal proved to be the difference as Tri-City claimed a 4-3 road win over Des Moines Saturday.

The Storm held a 3-2 lead after the first period of action, but Lubomir Kupco’s second-period marker sent the two teams into the locker rooms knotted at 3-3 after 40 minutes of play.

Then with 30 seconds left in regulation, Tri-City forward Trevor Connelly went down the right side of the rink, made a move to the net and put a shot on goal that was stopped by Ethan Dahlmeir. Falloon, positioned on the left the side of the crease, grabbed the rebound and potted his sixth goal of the year. Three of Falloon’s goals in 2023-24 have been game-winners.

Crandell Carmello had three assists for Tri-City, which now stands 6-2-0-0 on the year.  Des Moines, which dropped to 0-5-2-0, got a goal and an assist from Ben Kevan.

Sioux City 6, USA Hockey NTDP 1

Sioux City scored five straight goals through the first two periods in cruising to a 6-1 win over USA Hockey NTDP in Plymouth, Mich., Saturday.

The Musketeers led 2-0 at the end of the first on goals from Giacomo Martino and Hagen Burrows. Max Strand, Dylan Godbout and Easton Jacobs made it a 5-0 Sioux City lead in the second period before Cole McKinney got the NTDP on the board at 19:36.  Jacobs netted his second of the game at 6:12 of the third to round out the scoring in the game.

Bjorn Bronas stopped 12 shots in the Sioux City net to get the win.
Lincoln 4, Youngstown 1

A three-goal second-period outburst boosted Lincoln to a 4-1 home win over Youngstown Saturday.

Youngstown outshot the Stars 12-11 in a scoreless opening period and goals from Jared Mangen at 4:29, Blake Montgomery at 9:34 and Max Ferkodic at 11:03 of the second made it a 3-0 Lincoln lead after two periods of action.

Youngstown’s Brecken Smith cut the deficit to 3-1 at 2:43 of the third, but Montgomery’s second goal of the season, which came at 10:17, sealed the win for Lincoln.

Yan Shostak, who picked up his third win of the season for the Stars, stopped 34 of 35 shots. Colin Winn had 31 saves for the Phantoms.

Waterloo 4, Omaha 3

The Waterloo Black Hawks scored four times in the second period in claiming a 4-3 home win over Omaha Saturday.

The score stood 0-0 when Waterloo forward Teddy Townsend converted on a rebound chance at 3:31 of the middle stanza for his first career goal in the USHL.  Omaha’s Aleksi Kivioja evened it up four minutes later, but three straight strikes from the Black Hawks turned the tide with Adam Zlnka (11:17 on the power play), Jakub Alrichter (15:32) and John Mustard (17:32) all finding the target.  Nick Pierre staunched the bleeding for the Lancers at 19:42, but after 40 minutes, Waterloo held a 4-2 lead.

Lancer forward Ryan Kusler, who had a goal and an assist in the game, scored at 6:31 of the final period in closing out the scoring.

Omaha’s Eric Ollson finished with 30 saves, as did Waterloo’s Calvin Vachon.

Muskegon 5, Madison 2

Cody Croal had a four-point night in helping lead Muskegon to a 5-2 road win at Madison Saturday.

 

Goals from Finn Brink and Austin Burnevik helped Madison jump out to an early 2-0 lead, but Croal and Joe Connor scored for the Lumberjacks in knotting the score at 2-2 by the end of the opening period.

Croal’s fourth goal of the season at 4:18 of the second gave the Muskegon its first lead and when Hunter Anderson scored an unassistedd marker 10 minutes later, the Jacks owned a 4-2 lead after two periods of action.

Ty Henricks added an insurance tally at 2:30 of the third as Muskegon upped its record to 5-2-0-0 for the season.

Paxton Geisel had 17 saves for the Lumberjacks and Carsen Musser was credited with 27 for the Capitols, who suffered their first loss in regulation this year and now stand 5-1-1-0.

Fargo 4, Dubuque 0

Goaltender Hampton Slukynsky got his first career shutout in helping Fargo to a 4-0 win at Dubuque Saturday.

With the win, the Force stand 6-0-0-0 for the year and rank as the only remaining undefeated team in the USHL.

Slukynsky, a Northern Michigan commit, stopped all 16 shots he faced in getting his third win of the year.

Reid Daavetila got things going offensively for the Force when he opened the scoring at 9:10 of the first period.

Leo Gruba’s fourth goal of the year came at 19:33 of the third and Jack Fisher and Tom Leppa added third period goals as the Force picked up their third road win of the year.

Green Bay 4, Cedar Rapids 3 ot
Box Score

Forward Jayson Shaugabay’s goal at 3:43 of overtime boosted Green Bay to a 4-3 victory Saturday in Cedar Rapids.

The Gamblers, who upped their record to 5-3-0-0 with the win, got a pair of goals from Tanner Bruender in the win, while Shaugabay, who also had an assist on Bruender’s first goal to open the scoring in the game, finished with a two-point night.

Ben Poitras also scored for Green Bay, while Landan Resendes, Colin Grable and Garett Drotts scored for the host RoughRiders.

Adam Gajan, who now owns a 5-2-0-0 mark for the season, had 32 saves, while Rudy Guimond finished with 21 saves for Cedar Rapids
