UMBC edges UMD in Crab Pot Consolation Game

Saturday nights  Crab Pot doubleheader began with the University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers defeating the University of Maryland Terrapins four to three in the consolation game.

The Terps got on the board first on a power play goal by Nick Keppler, with assists to Timothy Blount and Zachary Arden at 3:21 in the first period. The Retrievers bounced back at 6:38 on a power play goal by Ryan Atkinson from Colin Edwards and Brennan Johnson. At 10:51, Keppler netted his second power play goal of the game from  Avery Clair and Arden again. The periods only even strength goal at 18:50 scored by Atkinson again, tied the game,with the lone assist credited to Jean Luc Durantaye.

Period two saw the Terrapins take four penalties to the Retrievers one. The penalties did not hurt the Terps directly,although UMBC’s Joe Parsons gave the Retrievers  their first lead of the game at 6:46 on an even strength goal assisted b John Lyons.

The third period saw the penalty situation flip flop, as UMBC took six penalties. It was the Retrievers Parsons scoring a short handed goal at 12:53 to increase the lead to two. The goal was assisted by Atkinson. With their goalie pulled, UMD got on the board with the last goal of the game with 12.2 seconds left in the contest. It was the Terps Arden scoring with helpers from Clair and Blount.

The game ended with UMBC’s goalie Dylan Knox madking 36 saves on 39 shots. Maryland’s Tanner McPhee made 23 saves on 27 shots.
