Hershey, PA – The Rockford IceHogs fell short against the Bears, taking a 5-2 loss on Sunday afternoon inside GIANT Center.
Hershey Bears beat the Rockford Icehogs 5to2 in front of 10,550 fans. and a teddy bear toss where 81,796 stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice after the first goal was scored by the Hershey Bears.
The famous Hershey Teddy Bear Toss kicked off just 2:55 into the game, when Hershey defenseman Louie Belpedio scored from the right point. After a 51 minute delay for the cleanup and resurfacing, the teams returned to the ice for the remainder of the 1st.
With 21 seconds to go in the period, Gavin Hayes gathered in his own rebound and shot far side past Hershey’s Clay Stevenson to tie the game 1-1.
In the first minute second period, Hayes scored another from the blue paint to give Rockford the lead. Dominic Toninato earned his second assist on the go-ahead tally.
Hershey ripped the lead back and jumped in front 3-2 with two quick goals from Graeme Clarke. The winger scored first on the power play and followed up his first marker with an even-strength goal 40 seconds later.
The Bears extended the lead to 4-2 when defenseman Ryan Chesley deflected the puck home by the back post at 8:23 of the 3rd.
Clarke added his 3rd goal as an empty-netter for his hat trick and to lock in the bears 5-2 win.
Rockford is back home on on Friday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. for a $2 beer night. Tickets are available at icehogs.com.
