JACKSONVILLE, FLA – The Jacksonville Icemen split their weekend home series with the Norfolk Admirals and snapped a six-game skid with an 8-5 victory in front of over 8,000 fans at Veterans Memorial Arena Saturday night.
Norfolk took an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game on a goal from Matt McMorrow. Shortly after, a huge hit from Icemen defenseman Dajon Mingo erupted the crowed and sparked the team to two unanswered goals from Wacey Rabbit and Cam Maclise to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room after one.
The second period opened with another Rabbit goal answered quickly by Norfolk forward Kelly Kilma. Rabbit would again find the back of the net for the hat trick 12 minutes into the period. Cody Fowlie and Maclise also added goals in the second. Norfolk would keep the game interesting with two late period goals to bring the score to 6-5 Jacksonville heading into the 3rd.
Defenseman Justin Woods would add to the lead late in the third and Maclise would complete his hat trick with an empty net goal to push the Icemen past the Admirals 8-5.
The Icemen head to Orlando Wednesday and Friday of next week before heading back home on Saturday, February 9th to complete the three-game series with the Solar Bears. Next Saturday is the second annual “Jax Eats” food festival prior to the game.
Ice Cubes: The Icemen had over 900 Boy Scouts in attendance for it’s second annual Scout Night… The Icemen had hat tricks from two separate players for the first time in franchise history… Wacey Rabbit had 5 points in the effort against Norfolk.
