HULL, UK – Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays can confirm the signing of Canadian forward Hugo Turcotte for the 2015/16 Elite League campaign.
The 24-year-old native of Laval, Quebec, is the younger brother of Stingrays defenceman Yan.
Turcotte has spent the last three years in the NCAA with Niagra University, posting 65 points (31 goals and 34 assists) in 103 games and winning the regular-season championship in 2012/13.
Before that he scored a team-high 23 goals and had 33 assists in 58 games for Grande Prairie Storm in the AJHL and had a year of junior A with South Shore Kings in the EJHL, posting 52 points (21 goals and 31 assists) in 45 league appearances.
Turcotte also finished the team’s highest scorer with 27 goals and 26 assists when playing for Winchendon Prep in the USHS in 2009/10 and was named the Most Valuable Player.
Player-coach Omar Pacha said: “Hugo is a completely different player to Yan. He has great speed and will be one of the fastest players in the league.
“Hugo has NHL speed, he has a good shot, he has good vision and he creates a lot of room with his speed. He competes and works hard, it will be his first year pro and he is hungry for success.
“Our philosophy won’t change. We will be putting together another hard-working, skilled team with a lot of speed and Hugo fits the mould and is exactly what we are looking for.”
Turcotte joins Pacha, Carl Lauzon, Matty Davies, David Brown, Yan Turcotte, Sam Towner, David Phillips and Jamie Chilcott on next season’s roster.
Hugo Turcotte admits it will be a dream to play alongside older brother Yan for Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays next season.
He said: “I’m really excited to join the Stingrays. It will be my first pro season out of college and I’m thrilled to be able to show what I can bring to the organisation.
“It will be a dream to play an entire season with my brother. Playing alongside my brother is something I never thought could be possible because of our seven-year age difference.
“My brother and I are very different types of player. My brother brings physicality and I will be bringing speed and offence – it can only be good for me, for him and for the team as well.
“Yan told me it was the perfect time to join the organisation and continue building on what they already accomplished last year.
“The organisation is going in the right direction under [Omar] Pacha’s and [Carl] Lauzon’s wings. He also mentioned that since day one he was welcomed into the Stingrays family and was impressed by how passionate the fans were.
“Lots of big names have played in that league and lots of former players from the NCAA Division 1 where I played last year had really good things to say about the EIHL.
“So when Pach called me and showed interest in me it was an easy decision to come and play for the Stingrays organisation and my brother.
“I expect to bring lots of speed and contribute offensively. After last year’s team success, I am expected to do all I can to help the team reach another final four and even a championship
