Treliving was hired as Flames GM on April 28, 2014 by then team president Brian Burke.
Don Maloney, who just completed his fifth season as senior vice president of hockey operations, was promoted to president of hockey operations and will be the interim GM next season.

But for our fans and our business, we need to move forward, and we are confident with Don’s experience that we will find the right general manger to build on Brad’s work and lead our team to the Stanley Cup.”
The Flames finished 38-27-17 this season, missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time in three seasons. They reached the second round last season but lost to their “Battle of Alberta” rivals Edmonton Oilers in five games.
They have not advanced past the second round of the playoffs since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in in 2003-04. Under Treliving, the Flames were 362-265-73. They went through five coaches during his tenure (Bob Hartley, Glen Gulutzan, Bill Peters, Geoff Ward and current coach Darryl Suter).
Treliving oversaw an overhaul of the Flames roster this past offseason, including the NHL’s first sign-and-trade deal with the Florida Panthers on July 25, acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, prospect forward Cole Schwindt and a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft in exchange for Matthew Tkachuk. The trade came after Tkachuk, a restricted free agent, indicated he would not sign a new long-term deal with Calgary.
Huberdeau signed an eight-year, $84 million contract with Calgary on Aug. 5 which begins next season
Tkachuk’s trade came after the Flames failed to sign unrestricted free agent forward Johnny Gaudreau. Gaudreau instead opted to sign a seven-year, $68.25 million contract with an annual average value of $9.75 million with the Columbus Blue Jackets on July 13.
Treliving did sign center Nazem Kadri to a seven-year, $49 million on Aug. 18.
He also hired Sutter on on March 5, 2021. Sutter signed a two-year extension on Oct. 8.
Maloney, who just completed his fifth season with Calgary, spent nine seasons as executive vice president, general manager and alternate governor of the Arizona Coyotes. Treliving was his Maloney’s assistant GM in Arizona when he was hired by the Flames.
Prior to going to Arizona, Maloney spent ten seasons as a member of the New York Rangers’ front office, serving as their vice president of player personnel and assistant general manager. Maloney’s first front office position in the NHL was assistant general manager of the New York Islanders following his retirement as a player with the club in 1991. He would later serve as the Islanders general manger from 1992 to 1995.
Maloney’s playing days included 765 regular season games over 13 NHL seasons with the Rangers, Hartford Whalers and Islanders. He was a highly touted prospect out of Kitchener in the OHL and was drafted by the Rangers in the second round (26th overall) in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He would go on to register 214 goals, 350 assists and 564 points and 815 penalty minutes. He also collected 22 goals, 35 assists and 57 points in 94 career Stanley Cup playoff games.
