Training Camp Wraps Up in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Over the last three days, Abbotsford hockey fans were treated to the Vancouver Canucks training camp at the Abbotsford Centre.

Canucks hit the ice in Abbotsford

The camp wrapped up with scrimmages that had team Blue face team White. Camp standouts included Jonah Gadjovich, Danila Klimovich and Will Lockwood. Gadjovich finished the mini games with two goals, and he showed his promising development as an NHL power forward. Belarusian forward Danila Klimovich also looked ready for professional hockey by generating good offensive looks, which will make Vancouver management hesitate about sending him down to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. Michigan Wolverines product Will Lockwood demonstrated his speed and physicality, which could possibly allow him to slot in for the injured Tyler Motte if he remains out of the lineup.

On defense, head coach of the Vancouver Canucks Travis Green made no bones about the play of Olli Juolevi. Green went on to say, “I don’t think he did himself any favours.” Juolievi could be destined to start his season in Abbotsford. The battle for the final roster spot on Vancouver’s back-end seems to be between Brad Hunt and the impressive Jack Rathbone.

Vancouver’s first pre-season game goes tonight against the expansion Seattle Kraken in Spokane, Washington. The game will be available on NHL.tv and gets going at 6 p.m. pacific time.
