Toronto cruise past Kraken, 6-2

In Seattle,Mitchell Marner and Michael Bunting scored a goal each in a 6-2 win for thr the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Kraken on Monday night.

Jack Campbell made 23 saves in the Toronto win.

“It’s great to end this road trip off of the way,” Toronto’s Alexander Kerfoot said. “Obviously (it) didn’t go the way we wanted to, but it was a good response coming here. You never want to come away empty-handed, so I thought we did the job tonight and we closed it out pretty good there in the third period without giving them a bunch.”

Calle Jarnkrok and Jared McCann were the Seattle strikers.

Seattle dropped to 16-29-4.

“We got down one came back and pushed the momentum our way,” Seattle head coach Dave Hakstol said. “The critical turning point was the second goal against. We had momentum, it’s a broken play and we weren’t clean in exiting the zone. If you give them second opportunities or opportunities they haven’t had to work for, you’re going to get in trouble. For me, that was the key turning point even though it was early in the game.”

The Leafs went 2-for-3 on the power play.

“I thought we were elite on special teams,” Toronto head coach Sheldon Keefe said. “The execution of the players just started with a high level today, especially. That was fun to watch. That really set us up to win the hockey game.”

The Maple Leafs improved to 31-12-3.

Ondrej Kase, Kerfoot, and Bunting  scored to help the Leafs take a 3-1 lead in the first period.

David Kampf (shorthanded) and Jake Muzzin scored in the third period for Leafs.

McCann scored his scored 20th of the season.

“It’s obviously very special,” McCann said. “It’s something I’ve worked very hard for, especially in the summertime. It’s a dream come true to make it to the NHL, so I’m just trying to take advantage of it.”

Philipp Grubauer made eight saves in the first period, and yielded three goals before getting the hook in the first intermission.

”At that point, you’re at a point where you give up another one and now you’re in a real deep hole, so (I) really just wanted to change the momentum and try to push the other way,” Hakstol said of the goalie change.

Chris Driedger made 11 saves through the final 40 minutes.
