Odenton, MD: On Friday night, January 29, 2022, it was the visiting Johnstown Tomahawk’s defeating the Maryland Black Bears 2-1 in NAHL action. The winning goal coming at 4:59 in overtime.
Johnstown got on the board first at Piney Orchard Ice Arena, at 14:19 of the second period. Egan Schmitt scored with help from Tyler DesRoches. Maryland would wait until 10:41 of the third period to tie the game with the goal coming from Brad McNeil. Leo Schwartz and Sean Kilcullen would get the assists for the Black Bears.
It appeared the game would go to a shootout, but Jake Black of the Tomahawks had other plans at 4:59 when he lit the lamp with an assist from Jacob Badal. Matthew O’Donnell would get the win in goal for Johnstown, making 35 saves on 36 shots. Luca DiPasquo made 32 saves on 34 shots for Maryland.
The game was the second game in two nights between the two teams, with the Black Bears taking the Friday night contest by a score of 4-1.
