TOLEDO, Ohio – Simon Denis scored twice for the Fish to lead Toledo to a 5-0 win over Fort Wayne in Game 5. Toledo will advance to the Conference Finals of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs.
In his second game back from injury, Simon Denis got the scoring started when he one-timed the puck into the back of the net on the power play. The strike came just 5:20 into the first period. Fort Wayne put the puck in the back of the net near the end of the first, but it was waved off due to goaltender interference. On the power play, Tylor Spink netted his third of the postseason with 2:02 remaining in the first, extending the Walleye lead to 2-0.
A.J. Jenks found the back of the net midway through the second when he took advantage of a Fort Wayne turnover. That was his fifth of the postseason. J.P. LaFontaine was credited with his first assist of the playoffs.
Tyson Spink put the Walleye ahead by four when he recorded his sixth goal of the postseason about 7 minutes into the third frame. Simon Denis netted his second of the game on another one-timer with about seven minutes remaining in the game.
Walleye notes: Jeff Lerg stopped all 24 shots he faced.
Games 1 and 2 of the Conference Finals will be played on Friday and Saturday at the Huntington Center. The Walleye will face either Colorado or Allen.
