TOLEDO, OH – J.P. Lafontaine scored the game-winning goal with an assist as the Walleye bombed the Brampton Beast 5-1 Wednesday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 44-14-2-1 and is 21-5-1-1 at home.
Toledo struck early when Dane Walters netted his 11th goal of the season when he blasted a one-timer that found that back of the net at 2:14 of the first. LaFontaine picked up his 10th goal of the year when he slipped in a short side chance on Andrew D’Agostini to give Toledo a 2-0 lead at 3:58. After Brampton scored to close the gap, a one-timer at 14:43 from defenseman Tim Campbell gave Toledo a 3-1 lead after the first period.
Tyson Spink was hounded on his way to the Brampton net but still managed to tuck a perfect wrist shot under the crossbar at 4:34 of the second period for his team-leading 32nd goal of the season. Zach Nastasiuk slammed in a giveaway just 14 seconds into the third period for his 12th of the season and a 5-1 lead. The goal was the fastest scored by a Walleye player to open a period this season.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 27 of Brampton’s 28 shots and has a record of 30-11-1-1 on the season… Toledo finished the year 7-2-1 against Brampton and has an all-time record of 20-3-1 vs. the Beast… Campbell’s second period goal was his first professional goal… Shane Berschbach had a pair of assists and has a point in six straight games.
