Tkachuk sends Ottawa past Canadiens in OT

In Montreal, the Ottawa Senators’ Brady Tkachuk used a lackluster defensive effort from the Canadiens to score with just 38 seconds gone in overtime to give the Sens a 2-1 win.

Tkachuk broke out from his zone and passed to Chris Tierney on the boards at the Habs blue line.  In a rec play designed in every rink, Tierney simply redirected the pass to center ice and waiting for Tkachuk to pick and race in .

Tkachuk went five hole for the winner.

“It’s a big rivalry game, and both teams are off back-to-backs, so a little tired and a little fatigued,” Tkachuk said. “But both teams showed up. It was a pretty fun game, great atmosphere, and I think everybody wanted to show up for these rivalry games.”

Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored for the Sens in regulation.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a heater like this before, not even in junior or anything,” Pageau said. “It’s obviously a great feeling. I’m feeling confident in my abilities right now, and I’m lucky to have the linemates and teammates that I have right now. I think we’re playing some pretty good hockey.”

Craig Anderson made 35 saves to get the win.

“It was a hard game,” Pageau said. “They came out fast, they were flying. They were good on the forecheck, shooting a lot of pucks, put us on our heels. But I thought in the second [period], we came out and played better. And in the third, the same thing. We came out and played better. I think [Anthony Duclair] started skating and put them on their heels, and I think it changed the momentum a little bit to see him flying like that all over the ice.”

Nick Suzuki gave Montreal a 1-0 lead with his goal.

“Everyone’s going to have their ups and downs throughout the season,” Suzuki said. “It’s a team game, everyone has to chip in, and right now, I feel like I’m producing well, but I know other guys are getting a lot of chances, it just hasn’t been going in for them.”

Carey Price made 22 saves in the loss and victimized by his defense on the OT goal.

“He’s one of the best goalies in the NHL, or the best, so it’s definitely something I’ll remember,” Tkachuk said.

All three Habs skaters were thinking someone else had Tkachuk.

“He had a lot of speed. I was trying to match his speed, and he made a pretty good move there,” Price said.
