Max Bibraer’s “versatility” was a key reason behind Tom Watkins’s decision to bring the former Israeli international back to The Tigers.
The 34-year-old, who amassed 60 points in 54 games during the club’s historic double-winning campaign, has agreed on a return to Telford.
He will again line up alongside fellow import forwards Peter Szabo and Silverthorn next season, in a familiar-looking Tigers squad.
Head Coach Tom Watkins believes the former Cardiff Devils star will continue to be a major asset for his side – wherever he plays.
He said: “Max is a very good skater and is a big guy, especially on our smaller ice pad. He can play in a variety of positions and made a positive difference for us last season. I like that versatility.
“I think when you’ve won the title, and guys have made a positive contribution, then it is easy to know what we need and where we have to make small changes.
“Max was a key part of what we did last year and he brings a different element to the team. He can be physical, he can score goals and we made some adjustments around the powerplay, which meant we got the best out of him.”
Birbraer’s return is another piece in the jigsaw for Watkins, who has already pledged to retain the majority of last season’s squad.
But The Tigers chief is keeping a keen eye on the ever-changing player market.
“My list of players from the end of the season to now is vastly different,” Watkins said.
“It changes, it evolves and players will sign elsewhere, or change. But in terms of Max coming back, he is a huge character for us.
“He is very well liked in the dressing room and it comes from having a very strong core group of players. What we’ve tried to do this year is keep that in place with as little disruption as possible.
“We still want to add a few key components that were perhaps missing from last year’s team. Max is a competitor. He’s hungry, wants to win and ticks all the boxes for us.
“Keeping a winning squad together is what it’s all about.”
