Telford Tigers NIHL finally tumbled out of Moralee Conference play-off contention with a 7-1 defeat at Solway Sharks on Saturday night.
The Telford youngsters retained a faint mathematical hope of reaching the tournament, ahead of the double-points game at Dumfries Ice Bowl.
But those ambitions were virtually extinguished during the first period, as a short-benched Tigers side went 3-0 down within the first 16 minutes.
Callum Griffin offered some hope of a comeback with a goal for Telford on 18 minutes, but the county men were unable to find another way through.
Two more Solway goals in the second period, and further brace in the final session, sealed victory for the Sharks, who are now favourites to claim fourth spot in the final standings.
