Tigers NIHL lose out to Blackburn Hawks

Tigers NIHL chief Jason Parry had harsh words for his young players after Saturday night’s 7-1 defeat to Moralee Conference high-fliers Blackburn Hawks at Telford Ice Rink.

A single goal from the visitors in the first period saw Telford head into the break with high hopes of causing an upset against the Lancashire outfit.

But the league leaders served up a sobering lesson in the second session, as they scored a further five times to virtually secure the points.Blackburn-Hawks-logo

Parry was disappointed with the workrate from his players in that middle period, especially after an encouraging first 20 minutes.

He said: “We were awful in the second period and the guys just stopped working. We weren’t mentally strong enough and seemed to switch off.

“Blackburn came at us, scored some goals and we stuck our heads in the sand. It isn’t good enough.”

Corey Goodison’s strike on 28 minutes was the only bright point for Telford, while Blackburn finished the night’s scoring with a goal just after the second interval.

Parry added: “They were a totally different team in the second period. If Daniel Brittle hadn’t played so well before that, it might have been a different story.

“I told them to play with passion in the third period, as the game had gone by then. We got what we deserved because of how awful we were in the second.

“We need to learn from this and move forward, but I have said that before. This time, we really need to.”

The Tigers NIHL’s next game is against Solway Sharks, at Telford Ice Rink, on February 6th (5.30pm).
