Tigers netminder Thomas Murdy has targeted Sunday’s clash with Guildford Flames as a “four point game” in the club’s bid to make up ground in the English Premier League.
Telford, who have games in hand over the majority of teams above them, face Guildford with just one point separating them in the standings.
Games between the two sides are level at one win apiece this year, with Telford having beaten the Flames 4-1 during their previous encounter a fortnight ago.
And Murdy, who has shared netminding duties with Sam Gospel this season, is expecting Sunday’s match to be another key battleground in the chase for honours.
He said: “It’s going to be a huge game against the Flames and will be very much like a four-point game. All of the guys are looking forward to it.
“At this stage of the year, you want to be beating the teams around you in the table. It is important that we start climbing towards those leading teams.”
The Tigers also travel to face Basingstoke on Saturday evening, with the Bison having beaten them twice so far this season.
But both of those games were played at the start of the campaign, when Telford struggled to convert heavy possession into goals.
Murdy added: “It’s something every team goes through at some point, and you’ll always have to get through those scoring slumps.
“It looks like we’re out of it now and scoring well, so it will hopefully be a different result on Saturday.”
The 24-year-old found himself in the spotlight last weekend, winning his first shut-out of the season in Telford’s 9-0 success over Manchester Phoenix.
“It’s always nice to get your first shut-out of the season,” he said.
“The way the team played against Manchester made it much easier for me. They limited the chances on goal, which meant I didn’t have a lot of saves to make.
“Personally, I feel I could have performed a little better this season, but it’s something I’ll be working hard to correct.”
