Tigers extend TV broadcasting deal

Telford Tigers will hit the small screen once again next season, with a newly extended weekly hour-long show on terrestrial television channel Big Centre TV.

Highlights of the English Premier League club’s matches will be shown on the channel, which is available throughout the West Midlands region.

Next season’s coverage will be screened every Wednesday night on Freeview Channel 7, Virgin Media 159 and online at www.bigcentre.tv, and repeated the next day.big-centre-tv-v2a-white

It is the second year that Telford Tigers have featured on the channel, with next season’s show to be called ‘Icing Tonight’ and fronted by professional broadcaster Paul Shuttleworth, alongside former Tiger Alan Gould.

Telford Tigers Managing Director, Paul Thomason, said: “This is a great opportunity to spread the word about our club to a much wider audience than before.

“The fact that we’ve been able to negotiate an hour-long slot, whereas we had 30 minutes last season, shows how much Big Centre TV are committed to ice hockey.

“As far as we know, there are no other clubs in the English Premier League that enjoy this level of exposure on local TV.

“In fact, there are only one or two clubs in the entire country who have their own weekly show on terrestrial television.

“We’re also glad that Big Centre TV is carried online, so anyone outside the coverage area can still enjoy our weekly highlights. “

Plans are in place for Big Centre TV to negotiate space on the Sky broadcast platform over coming months, as the channel continues to increase viewing figures.

Gary James, Sports Editor at Big Centre TV, said: “We want to make Telford Tigers a core part of our weekly offer during the Autumn schedule and into 2017.

“We already have over 250,000 viewers every week, and we see next season as being crucial to our strategy of increasing that number. We’ve got an overall reach on the West Midlands of around 2.4 million.”
