Tigers defender issues warning

SHROPSHIRE, UK – “It doesn’t matter how big or small they are” – Danny Rose has issued a stern warning to The Tigers’ title rivals, after he agreed terms on a return to the EPL champions.

The 20-year-old defenceman has won plaudits for his no-nonsense style during the last three years in Telford, following his arrival from EIHL outfit Nottingham Panthers.

Rose’s hard-headed approach has seen him handed a full-time deal by Tom Watkins for next season, including a move to live and train in Shropshire.drose1

And he is happy to remain a key part of The Tigers rearguard for the upcoming campaign.

“I was brought up to work hard during games and always get stuck in,” Rose said.

“The key is to not be afraid of anything. I have always been told it doesn’t matter how big or small they are. I’ve got the pads on to protect me.

“It will be harder to win the double next year, as all the other teams are strengthening their squads. It is going to be a fun season for everyone and I’m looking forward to it.”

That willingness to “get stuck in” persuaded Watkins to compare Rose to his own playing style, garnered during a glittering 19-year playing career.

He added: “I want to learn a lot more from the guys on the team, and especially Tom, to improve my game. That includes both on and off the ice.

“I can be more confident in making plays and choosing the right play. Of course, I also want to help the team out in any way I can.”

The youngster’s full-time move to Telford will be his first experience of living away from home, after learning his trade through the Nottingham junior ranks.drose2

“The Tigers have shown great faith in me over the years, which is key for a young player,” Rose said.

“That sort of thing will help me to improve my game, especially as the team has great coaching staff. There is a great set-up around the whole club.

“It will be a huge change for me to live in Telford full time. It means I can concentrate on ice hockey a lot more and progress in all areas.”
