WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Following Saturday’s 5-2 victory over the Port Huron Prowlers, the Carolina Thunderbirds completed the weekend sweep. Saturday’s victory was a much smoother path to victory than Friday’s match-up.
As the first period started, the Thunderbirds wasted no time finding the back of the net. Just 1:35 into the game. Karel Drahorad and Jan Salak would get two past Cody Karpinski, giving the Thunderbirds a two goal lead going into the second period.
Zachary Zulkanycz and Matyas Kasek rallied for Port Huron and tied the game 2-2 in the second period. Following those two goals from Port Huron, Jay Croop delivered for Carolina. Croop would go on to score the next two goals for the Thunderbirds.
In what was a rather lackluster third period, the Thunderbirds were the only ones who found the back of the net. Thunderbirds Captain Josh Pietrantonio scored on a rebound that was orginally blocked by Karpinski. Pietrantonio’s goal was his 19th of the season and the put the final nail in the coffin.
The Thunderbirds extended their points lead by five points. The Thunderbirds travel to Elmira, NY to take on the Elmira Enforcers Friday-Sunday.
