GLENS FALLS, NY – The Adirondack Thunder exploded for four goals in the first period to defeat the visiting Reading Royals, 4-3, in front of 4,710 at Cool Insuring Arena on Friday night.
Adirondack rattled off four goals in the first period to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission. Grant Jozefek got his own rebound and beat goaltender Kaden Fulcher for a 1-0 lead just 3:32 into the game. The goal was Jozefek’s 14th of the year with assists from Matt Stief and Brandon Schultz.
Xavier Parent scored back-to-back goals to give the Thunder a three-goal lead in the first. Parent’s first of the game and 18th of the year came 6:26 into the game and his second of the game and 19th of the year came 8:40 into the game for a 3-0 advantage.
Adirondack took a 4-0 lead as Brett Ouderkirk converted on a breakaway for his fourth of the year at 14:47 of the first period. Colin Long and Jeff Taylor were credited with the assists and the Thunder took that lead into the intermission.
Reading scored the lone goal of the second period as Adirondack just killed off a penalty. Jacob Gaucher fired a wrist shot into the net as the power play ended to get the Royals on the board. Assists were given to Alec Butcher and Shane Sellar and the Thunder took a 4-1 lead into the third period.
The Royals scored twice in the third period as Yvan Mongo and Shane Sellar went back-to-back and the lead for Adirondack decreased to 4-3. In the end, the Thunder held on for the one-goal victory. Jake Theut stopped 43 shots in the win.
The Thunder return home tomorrow against the Reading Royals at 7 p.m. for the annual Kid’s Takeover game with specialty jerseys designed by kids.
