MELBOURNE, Australia – The Perth Thunder came to Melbourne this weekend as the Mustangs hosted a brace of games.
In a tight contest Saturday night, the Mustangs got a goal from Patrick O’Kane in the third period to beat the Thunder, 2-1.
Brendan McDowell opened the scoring in the game late in the first period to stake the Mustangs to a 1-0 lead.
Benjamin Beault tied things up at one all when he scored with 42 lefts left in the opening frame.
Neither side was able to score with the man advantage.
On Sunday, the Thunder found their offense posting two goals in each period en route to a 6-3 win over Melbourne.
Michael Dorr scored four goals for the visitors including a natural hat trick over the first and second periods.
Andrew Cox and Breault also scored for the Thunder.
The Mustangs picked up two goals from Vadim Virjassov and a single marker from Eric Louis-Seize.
The Thunder went 2-for-4 on the power play and the Mustangs scored twice in seven attepts.
The Melbourne remain atop the AIHL ladder with 45 points and have yet to lose in regulation over 18 games. The Thunder are trying to keep pace with 32 points in 16 games.
Through 17 games the Mustangs have 20 points in in sixth place.
