Thunder lose to Lions, 5-2

TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec – The Adirondack Thunder failed to gain on the Worcester Railers in a 5-2 loss on the road to the Trois-Rivieres Lions on Friday night. Adirondack now trails Worcester by one point heading into back-to-back home games against the Railers.

Adirondack scored first to take a 1-0 lead as Sebastian Vidmar put in his 14th of the year. Shane Harper connected with Patrick Grasso who flipped the puck over to Vidmar in the left circle and he beat goaltender Philippe Desrosiers. The goal came 9:58 into the game with Grasso getting the lone assist.

The Lions rattled off three goals in a row to take a two-goal lead after one period. Nicolas Guay tied the game just 35 seconds after the Thunder took the lead. The goal was his 12th of the year from Anthony Beauregard and Markuss Komuls.

Nicolas Lariviere and Anthony Beauregard both scored to cap off three goals in a span of 5:20 to take a 3-1 lead into the second period.

In the second period, Adirondack pulled within one as Grant Jozefek fired in his 18th goal of the year. Wayne Letourneau and Ivan Chukarov teamed up to get the puck from behind the net to Jozefek and he beat Desrosiers. The goal came at 12:55 of the second and the Thunder trailed 3-2 to start the third.

Trois-Rivieres cashed in on a power-play goal and empty-net goal in the third period for the 5-2 win.

The Thunder return to Cool Insuring Arena tomorrow at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 16 at 3 p.m. against the Worcester Railers with huge playoff implications.
