Three goal third period propels Utah past Alaska 6-3

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Matt Berry scored twice, and Ryan Faragher made 37 saves as the Utah Grizzlies pulled away in the third period in a 6-3 win over the Alaska Aces Thursday night at the Sullivan Arena.

Utah took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Phil Pietronero and Berry despite Alaska outshooting the Grizzlies 18-7 in the period.

The Aces drew within one at 4:09 of the second period on Felix Poulin’s 4th goal of the season. Poulin took a pass out of the right corner from Tim Coffman and rifled a wrister top shelf glove-side of Faragher. Berry then scored his second goal of the night, 14th of the season before Collin Valcourt scored the first of his 2 goals on the night on the power play at 19:18, making it 3-2 Utah.

In the third period, Ryan Walters redirected a beautiful saucer pass from Barry Almeida past Troy Redmann to make it 4-2 Utah before Valcourt added another power play strike for the Aces at 8:32.

Utah’s Erik Higby turned a blueline turnover into an unassisted goal aqt 12:12 before Corey Fienhage finished the scoring with his goal at 15:03.

Faragher made 37 saves in defeating the Aces for the 4th straight time, all on Sullivan Arena ice. Redmann finished with 21 saves. Steven Summerhays played just under 5 minutes in the third period, surrendering a goal in the only shot he faced.

Alaska outshot Utah 40-26 for the game.

The Aces and Grizzlies play again Friday and Saturday nights at 7:15 pm AST.
